Tagum Cooperative gains more awards
Tagum Cooperative (TC) in Tagum City (Davao del Norte, Philippines)
continues to gather more honors as one of the country’s leading co-ops.
It is also one of the 15 partner-co-ops in the GE Project in the Philippines
that was implemented by the Asian Women in Co-operative Development
Forum (AWCF) from 2010-2012, supported by the Swedish Cooperative Centre
(SCC).
In October 2012 in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, during the 11th
“National Cooperative Summit” of the Philippine co-op sector, the
government body Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) honored Ms Norma
R. Pereyras, Chairperson of TC and Chairperson (first female) of
Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC), as 2012’s “Most Outstanding
Cooperative Leader” for both Region XI (Davao Region) and national
levels. CDA also gave TC the “Gawad Parangal” Award for 2012 as “Most
Outstanding Cooperative” for large-scale category for regional
(Mindanao) and national levels; and “Best in Cooperative Solidarity and
Partnership” Award. TC also got the main award as “Most Outstanding
Cooperative GAD-FEP Implementor” for 2011, given in 2012 by MASS-SPECC
Cooperative Development Center (MASS-SPECC), a federation of Mindanao
co-ops; and the “Top Aflatoun Cooperative Award” for 2011, given in 2012
by the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), a Philippine
co-op federation, and Aflatoun. For the Aflatoun award, TC bested a
hundred other Aflatoun program co-op implementers in the Philippines for
its outstandingly active and well-supported implementation of the
program that seeks to teach children social values, and rights and
responsibilities, together with basic financial education.
