Small Loans, Changed Lives

This video "Small Loans, Changed Lives" takes the viewer into the lives of families—with children and adults, of women and men, of workers, of organizations, of communities, whose lives are being touched and improved through loans from the co-op. The loan amounts may yet be small but just enough to help bring positive changes and new hope in the lives of people who, despite meager income, manage to set aside some savings in the co-op. These savings enable them to make vital loans. In the co-op, the people also join learning sessions that improve not only their self-worth—as men and women—but also their skills. Among families, the important changes include having more respect among the family members and more willingness to help one another in the housework. With the improving lives of its members, the co-op also grows as the people become better savers and loan repayers. This video was produced by People's Credit Co-operative (Koperasi Kredit Rakyat or KKR) in Malaysia, 2002, together with KOMAS, also of Malaysia. KKR and the Koperasi Kredit Pekerja-Pekerja or KKP (Workers' Credit Co-op, Malaysia), together form the Credit Union Promotion Club (CUPC), which is AWCF's member-organization in that country.
